Portland is the place to live if you are looking to move to the Pacific Northwest. Portland is the largest city in Oregon with over half a million people, and is the third largest city in the region. With many great attributes, there is no wonder why so many people call Portland, Oregon home.
Portland is known for its rainy days; it gets an average of 155 days of precipitation every year. Most of the rainfall occurs between the months of November and April, making the summer months very appealing. Although there is a lot of precipitation in the area, there is rarely any snow. This type of weather is ideal for growing roses, making "The City of Roses" one of Portland's many nicknames. To this day, Portland holds an annual Portland Rose Festival, the city's main yearly celebration.
Portland is full of parks within its city limits. An interesting fact is that the city boasts the biggest wilderness park in the country, Forest Park, which expands across an area of over five thousand acres. It also is home to the smallest park in the world, Mill Ends Park. This little park has the area of a circle only two feet in diameter.
More than anything else, Portland is renowned for its breweries and beer. With more than twenty-five breweries within the city, there are more breweries in Portland than any other American city. Because of the city's love for beer, in 2007 the Mayor of Portland gave the city the official nickname of "Beertown". The Oregon Brewers Festival occurs each year in Portland and is the biggest assembly of independent brewers in the US.
